Crafts

The cosy, light filled Craft Workshop is situated at the entrance of our project and is a workplace for three or four co-workers at a time to work alongside our Workshop Team Leader Renate McGavin.

Many and varied beautiful handmade craft items are created including Stained Glass, Card Making, Mosaics, sewing and bees wax candle dipping.

Our produce is displayed and sold in our café, workshop and taken to farmers markets and fairs.

The work Renate and her team creates is very popular with regular visitors to Blackthorn and she regularly takes commissions and is happy to do so.

Another regular activity is the Stained Glass Workshops that Renate runs throughout the year. For more information on dates and availability please contact Renate.

In the lead up to Christmas the Craft Team will be hard at work making ready for our Christmas Fair held on 5th December. Gingerbread Houses and biscuits will be prepared for the children to build and decorate during a workshop at the fair. A very popular and delicious activity!!

Renate will also organise festive candle dipping during the fair so there will be plenty of opportunities for families to get involved and develop hidden architectural and artistic skills during these fun and popular workshops!

Woodwork Workshop

Situated in the Tractor shed is the wood workshop led by our dedicated and highly skilled volunteer Ray.

This gives co-workers another area of work and to explore and gain new skills. All Blackthorns needs are met by this team, most recently the beautiful handrail created around the outside terrace of the café. The woodwork shop have also received a commission for a local parish council to create benches. This work gives the workshop co-workers a great sense or achievement whilst learning transferable skills.
