Full NHS Funding For Pain Management

The Trust has now signed a 3 year Specialist Provider Medical Services Agreement with West Kent PCT to provide full funding for Blackthorn’s Pain Management Service. It is available to any patient suffering chronic pain whose condition has not been helped by a hospital pain clinic or a specialist in that field. Over the last 2 years over 80 patients have been referred to the service by their GP. The anthroposophic approach includes medicines and therapies (art, biographical counselling, eurythmy and rhythmical massage), with opportunities for rehabilitation through social enterprise and support towards further training and employment. A full description of the principles, method , audit and results todate is available in ‘Chronic Pain as an Instrument for Change – Anthroposophic Management of Long Term Conditions’ by Dr David McGavin and Prof Gene Feder.
