The Christmas lights are down and the decorations have been packed away for another year, and the New Year can feel quite stark in comparison, especially if you’re not feeling so happy in the first place.

Here are a few tried and tested tricks that we use at Blackthorn to help fend off the New Year blues.

  1. Look for signs of hope in nature: very soon, snowdrops will be popping up, reassuring us that winter is not forever and spring will soon follow
  2. Go outside. Even though it’s grey and gloomy, fresh air and movement can really help to bring a more positive mindset, even if you can only manage it for a matter of minutes
  3. Make a meal to share with a friend. You can’t beat the benefits of sharing simple home-cooked food. We swear by it at Blackthorn
  4. Meet a friend for a chat. As the saying goes, a problem shared is a problem halved
